On-Page SEO: A Checklist That Still Works

On-page SEO has not changed as much as the industry pretends. The fundamentals still decide most rankings, and most pages skip half of them.

Title, headings, and intent

Write a title that matches what the searcher wants, use one H1, and structure the page with clear H2s. The page should answer the query in the first screen, not bury it.

  • Link to related pages with descriptive text.
  • Add alt text that describes the image, not the keyword.
  • Keep URLs short and readable.

Depth without padding

Cover the topic fully, then stop. Length helps only when every paragraph earns its place. Padding to hit a word count hurts more than it helps.
