Mobile-first is older than the phones in most pockets, yet plenty of sites still design for a wide screen and squeeze it down. In markets like Nepal, where most traffic is mobile, that order is backwards.
Decide what matters on a small screen
A phone forces you to prioritise. If the main action does not fit comfortably on one screen, the page is trying to do too much.
Design for thumbs and patience
- Make tap targets large and well spaced.
- Keep forms short; every field loses people on mobile.
- Assume a slower connection and design for fast first paint.
Then enhance for larger screens
Once the mobile experience is solid, add the breathing room and extra detail a desktop allows. Scaling up is far easier than cramming down.
